SFOS uses the development build of React

Since we use React for some of our own software, I have the React developer tools installed in Chrome. Therefore, I noticed that SFOS is using the development build of React (see below).

Is there any particular reason it is not using the production build? I know that it can make a significant difference in performance.

  • ReactJS is used only in a few widgets in XG, so this likely has minimal performance impact, but it is something we should clean up. I've raised this with the responsible teams, and can update when more info is available. Thanks for reporting, Sam.

what does it say about the quality of the software engineering that's going into the product?

Very little. It's a bit of general housekeeping that should be cleaned up, but doesn't effect the firewall in a meaningful way, and doesn't reflect glaring holes in the QA process, or product security.

  • Hello, any update?

    Thank you

  •  I know you guys are trying to put quality into XG and please don't take this as me bashing Sophos, but still using the development build of React in MR2 is a little concerning. I am going to have to agree with  about quality of the software engineering you guys are putting out. I can't believe how many threads there are about IPSEC and MR2. Thankfully I don't have any VPN's, just SSL and RED but I do have yet another problem that is new in V17. Sophos really needs to look at the QA process. We told you about this 2 months ago.

and i think there have been more important bugs to fix for MR2 than migration React to one stable release.

Sophos i think that your QA Process is unable to keep up with your new (two years ago anounced) approach of agile developement.

  • There have definitely been more important bugs to fix than what release of React is being used, but my point was their QA overall. AlanT said using a development build of React did not reflect their QA process. At first, I would have agreed but here we are at MR2 and the quality is just not present. It leads me to agree with what was said in the post earlier, that using development builds is just one sign of poor QA.

Also, I am no longer with a company that is a Dell partner so I can't comment on them but Citrix does not use the development build. In general, using the development build on anything that is in production is not something you should do in the IT world.
