Host DNS entry with port numbers

Hi Guys,

I'm just new in setting up our Sophos XG 210, I'm done with the basic set up and firewall policies but I'm just wondering on how I can add a host DNS entry that resolves to my gateways IP and admin consoles HTTPS port (default 4444).

So instead of me typing https://10.10.10.1:4444 I can just simply type sophos.company.net

Can I do that? I went to Configure>Network>DNS then tried adding a host dns entry but it won't allow me to add any ports.

Noel,

dns entries do not incldue port. DNS are used to resolve names to IP, ip to names, CNAME, MX, txt, etc.

If you want to reach the Sophos XG using name, you need to make sure that the DNS you are using is able to resolve the name --> IP.

Thanks for the response. I've set up a static IP address on my pc to point the gateway as its DNS server. Prior to my post, I've also added a dns host entry for sophos.company.net -- > 10.10.10.1. And when I looked on the console and typed the command dnslookup host sophos.company.net it resolves with my gateway IP so I assumed that it worked. I can also ping sophos.company.net.

But what I don't understand is that when I typed https://sophos.company.net:4444 it doesn't work but if I enter https://10.10.10.1:4444 I can log in.

Noel,

this is strange. Remove the dns entry on XG DNS and add it only iniside your computer (hosts file). Use the command prompt to make sure you can resolve it and try again. Also try with another browser.
