What is the best practice approach to blocking Chrome Remote Desktop?

Good afternoon all,

I am new to the Sophos XG Firewall and have a need to block outbound connection to computers outside of our network using Chrome Remote Desktop. I've found reference to doing so in the UTM 9 group, but couldn't quite see how to relate that within XG terms. Could someone provide steps to accomplish this? Thanks in advance!

  • Hi xds,

You can set an application control for 'chrome remote desktop' , enable micro-app discovery in the application filter rule, then import appliance certificate in the machine.

    XG 135

I go to APPLICATIONS > Application Filter. Add> Create filter. Select Individual application > Chrome Remote Desktop, select > All The Time > Deny

Go back to FIREWALL > Default Policy. Choose Application Control Drop Down, select that filter.

And it's not working. (Did this exactly to block YouTube and it works).

Micro app discovery? Import appliance? huh?
