VLAN Interface and the need to set IP address on the NIC

Hello,

a generel question:

Why is there a need to set an IP Adress on an interface, that is used as VLAN interface?

Port B is an interface with a few VLANs. Every VLAN has a IP-Adress and VLAN ID. Everything is working finde. But the Interface Port B must have an IP-Adress without VLAN ID. The fields with IP-Adress can not stay empty. Now I have set something like that: 1.1.1.1/32, but it does not make sence for me, or I do not understand it.

Thanks for info.
