WLAN Problems with external DHCP Client can do nothing

Hello everybody,
Maybe you can help me.
I just have a great thinking error in my configuration.

A WLan (Seperate Zone) with a DHCP Relay from an Internal DHCP Server (Windows)
The client gets an IP address from the DHCP assigned, but can not surf the Internet or Ping an another PC.

The Sophos makes the WLan connection but is not the primary Getway of the DHCP Range. This is another firewall.

How can I get it, the client in the WLAN  with the DHCP adresse from the relay can do everything in Network.

Help and suggestion welcome

  • Hi,

I don't understand your configuration, please provide a diagram. Why are you using two firewalls and the traffic will never go out the XG because it is not the gateway.

  • Hello Ian,
the other firewall is primary. This regulates the entire data traffic of the company.
A diagram is a bit difficult but I try to divide a bit further.

The APs are in a separate vlan

A fixed IP of the internal network is stored on port 5 of the XG. The VLAN is also stored on this port.

A Wlan is configured with a seperate zone and has as DHCP the internal Windows server deposited.

All clients from the WLAN should now access all resorces in the internal network.

    It does not work

As you said. It does not work.
The Sophos does provide the Wlan but is not the gateway.

That means I have current no chance with this WLAN to come into internal network unless I change the Primary Getway. What is not feasible.

Alternative goes only a new Wlan with Bridge to AP LAN, then I can use only the internal DHCP of the sophos and not the DHCP releay or?

  • Hi Makuro,

what is the aim of having the XG? What is the make/type of your main firewall? What is the make of your APs?

And finally, you should involve your reseller with this question. Some of the Sophos support team occasionally visit and answer questions in these forums.

  • Makuro,

without a network diagram, XG deployment mode,  we are not able to help you further.

    Thanks
