Built a new XG for home

Today as part of the exercise in testing IPv6 on the XG without upsetting my wife I built a new XG.

I was pleasantly surprised in how easy the registration process is now.

My unit has 4 NICs and I guessed which two would be internal and external interfaces. The external interface uses a DHCP ADSL2+ connection so immediate internet and mail messages.

My congratulations to all involved in improving the customer experience with the registration process.

  • Ian,

I can confirm that when last sunday I have reinstalled XG from scratch. They done a great job.

Well done! This waiting for pattern patch. Let us know how would your pattern behaviour on the other thread (ips not updating).

    Thanks

  • Hi Luk,

both XG show the same version numbers, some were updated late on the 29th my time on the main XG.

WAF has not updated since jan 2017, not sure if that information is of any value to you.

I have updated the other thread.

  • Interesting little statistic, My new XG is using 55% of its memory with only 2 rules and no clientless users and MTA enabled. Whereas the main XG only uses 44% of its memory with 7 rules, lots of filter actions and clientless users.

Both devices show a very similar amount of memory 5.984gb.

  • Hi Ian,

That is strange, although XG allocates the memory and many devices may vary the memory usage and is not fixed. You should not worry unless it goes to 95 to 100%. As compared to UTM and Cyberoam the Memory does not reserve the RAM and uses as per the requirement.
