Gateway failover with 3 WAN links

Hi,

I am building a new XG router that will have 3 WAN links:

1 - 20Mbit copper service (unlimited data)

2 - ADSL (large data limit)

3 - 4G (small data limit)

I want all traffic to go over the 20Mbit link. If that goes down, I want all traffic to go over the ADSL link. If that goes down too, then I want the 4G link to kick in.

The best I can come up with is for #2 to come up on failure of #1, and for #3 to come up on failure of "ALL". If that configuration doesn't work, I would make the 20Mbit and ADSL links active, with the 20Mbit link having a very high weight, and then for the 4G link to be a backup and to only become active on failure of "ALL" links.

Is this going to work the way I want it to?

Ideally, when the 4G link is active I would block a lot of applications (eg anything to do with updates), but I don't know that that is possible. The situation where the 4G is the only working link should be fairly rare so this isn't such a concern.

thanks

James

  • James,

Without manual intervention you cannot achieve your goal.

I agree on the fact that a better managing on how to use the 4g should be improved. For example, if 4g is used block peer to peer, Facebook and non-productive urls/app.
