XG85 Features latest version of OS

I am sure this is somehwere on here but I have been unable to find it. I purchased and XG85 waiting for delivery. I did not own a machine I could run the VM on so i figured this would be my best option for home firewall. It looks like not all features may be available on this platform. I am confused because some of it is old information and I dont really see many deep discussion of the capabilities of the 85 beyond its specs. Will I be able to run the FULL UTM feature set on this device? What limitiation could I run into. Does it support sandstorm? Proxy?

This is just a home firewal. The listed feature set for the platform almost seems to good to be true and I am worried that it is. Any feedback would be appreciated.

  • All functionality can be run on all hardware, provided that you have the appropriate license.

The limitation will be on performance and number of users.  If you take a low end appliance, only enable 3 features then you may get 100 people through it with no problems.  If you enable all features, then maybe after 10 people you start to notice performance issues.  I don't know what the real numbers are.  Some features, such as IPS and Application Control are more resource intensive than other features.

  • Hi Steve,

You can technically run all UTM features on XG home, except for Sandstorm I suppose.

Limitation that you could run into, is the device specifications sufficiency to handle traffic and processes wherein the XG home is installed.

  • XG85 comes with no HDD so for reporting you need a syslog (iView) on another machine to generate reports.

All other features are included as bigger appliances (of course it depends of the license). Xlr8, sandstorm can be enabled (license needed).

  • oh i see, thanks for that one Luk.
