Authentication hangs on the appliance

Dear Sirs,

We are migrating our plataform to Sophos and we chose the XG430. Now we're using the release SFOS 16.05.5 MR-5. Because of many issues that we read about SFOS 16.05.6 MR6, we decided, for now, to not upgrade for this version.

Our problem consists in a unstable behavior of our appliance. Almost every day, when our users start working, the device can't authenticate and hangs on the authentication service. Even the users that Internet access are allow without authentication, couldn't use it.

When we try to do a remote access via SSH, even the access of admin account is refused. To restablished the service the only option is switch off the device and turn it on again (something that we know is not recommended).

The configuration made in Administrator Authentication Method is to only use the local accounts. We have too an AD in our environment and now we are using Sophos Single Sign-On client in the workstations. Although we deploy it by a AD policy, many users, with the software installed, have to authenticate with the Web Client portal. Before this, we used STAS, but we had problems when many people used the same workstation. When the logon changes, the previous user is still showing like the current user.

    open a ticket with support. You have strange behaviour (maybe because some misconfiguration are into place). Who is moving to XG for the first needs to pay attention and study it (as every new product).

    Before swapping the old appliance you should do some tests with STAS, etc..before moving to it.

    Thanks for your reply. You help so much with it. But I would like to clarify you that the configuration we've made is very simple, because we are using the appliance like a proxy in our network.

    We've been studying a lot with the official documentation and I can asure you that these tasks are not difficult. In the beginning of use, we didn't have any problems. As the number of users were increasing, these issues has happenned.

    I've been looking for information and found many people with complains about this version 16.

    But we are following your advise and we'll open a ticket with the official support.

  • Please provide me the case# if you have registered it. I would also request you for an upgrade to MR-5 and take a Memory and a Hard Disk test. Refer,
