Traffic shaping for a custom application in XG

We are trying to do  traffic shaping for some applications that give a guaranteed bandwidth to each user.

The application i am trying apply QoS is not listed in XG. How would i add the application onto XG.

Its a verified application and hosted on AWS. Thanks

  • This doesn't help right now, but I believe if you have Central Endpoint Advanced, you will be able to get application info from the Endpoints directly to do just this sort of thing.  That is coming in v17, at least I hope it is.

  • axsom1 yes we are using cloud endpoint protection advanced. How would i be able to get application info from sophos central console. If you are talking about application control, then yes it has an option to allow or block detected application. But i am not sure if we can add an application not listed to it unless you request support and ask them to add to it. I still wouldn't know if XG would sync to that application, as XG only checks heartbeat of the endpoints. I am not aware of application control sync between XG and cloud endpoint protection as its early days for us with XG

  • The dynamic application control I'm referring to isn't available yet, but is planned for v17.  I know it doesn't help with the problem at hand unfortunately.

    Thanks,

    John

  • Axsom is right. From v17, XG and Sophos Endpoint will communicate and share even applications detected by Endpoint. I am not sure if Traffic Shaping will be available on those Applications.

We will see it from beta.

  • Good point.  I recall seeing the capability to add the applications to app filters, but not positive on the QoS category/policies.  Sorry for the confusion.

  • Just reviewed a slide deck and it appears that the apps will be able to be categorized at which point you can apply qos policies.

Obviously we wont know for sure until v17 starts rolling.  Really looking forward to this feature myself.

    Cheers
