Source Code for Open Source components?

I am wondering where I would be able to download all the source code for all the open source software (including Sophos' modifications) used in the XG Firewall.

  • Hi Simon, sorry for the confusion. This request comes up every few years and most people incorrectly assume that the source code would be hidden or unavailable somehow. Prior to the export restrictions around 2015 I believe, most of the source code was posted on ftp.astaro.com for their UTM9 product to stay GPL compliant. Astaro before Sophos tried to be GPL compliant so it was easy for sophos to continue publishing that code. Infact, you can get the latest release 9.5 source code from the page that alda linked to.

I am not sure how compliant cyberoam was before their acquistion but from my experience, sophos is pretty good with compliance. There are other companies Mikrotik? and others that abuse the open source code but sophos with all its problems atleast tries to publish all the open source code that is used in their products.

    Hope this helps.

P.S. Hi aditya, sharing open source code is part of the licensing agreement to use such code. Sophos can and will hide the proprietary stuff used in their products but they cannot hide the open source code used if they want to stay GPL compliant.

  • I do not know the details on publishing however I know Sophos does take open source code licensing seriously.

This issue has been forwarded.  It may take a few days.  Please be patient.

  • Thanks for pointing out the problem. As Michael said, we take our commitments here seriously. We produce a new open source ISO with every release, but there has been a problem with the publishing process for that ISO. That's being fixed, and will soon be available on this page:
