iView Licensing

Hi All,

I have a doubt about licensing on iView. Imagine that you buy a Server and you install on it iView with 8 TB license. What happens if the Server has more than 8 TB?

I have this question because I would like to buy a HW Server for a customer and maybe they will add more XG in the future and 8 TB could not be enough. So my idea is to buy a server with 16 TB of disk space and expand the iView license if necessary.

The same question applies to Virtual Appliance too (this can be useful if other users have the same question).

Thanks

  • I think the iView server is going to do what their virtual/software appliances do: just not use the excess resources. So I am guessing you will be able to use a server with 16TB storage but iView will stop syncing at 8TB and will ask you to upgrade. Similar to what the home version does, restricts itself to 6G of RAM and 4 cores.
Or what you can also do is deploy iView virtually and have two datastores of 8TB each. If iView gives you issue with using a 16TB server you can still have a physical server of 16TB but virtually deploy it with 8TB and then when the client expands their network you can add the 8TB as a separate hard drive

  • Thansk Osama.

I need an official response from whom is using iView or from Sophos Staff. I cannot use virtual machine. They want the appliance! So I could even imagine to create a raid with only 8 TB of disk and then add the additional disks later and increase the raid space, but what happens to iView? I do not want to format iView for that and lose all the Reports.
