Restore doesn't work

Hello,

I had a problem upgrading to MR-5 and ended up with reinstalling the system.  I have a backup available but when I do apply the backup the system reports : 'backup succesfully restored' and reboots.  Unfortunately, after the restore the config is as empty as before the restore.

The backup was made on MR-2.  I try to restore in MR-5.

I had to assign a new serial (home installation).

Any ideas on how to get the system back up and running would be greatly appreciated.  It has taken weeks to get the system exactly as I wanted...

Thanks !

  • KoenT,

I had an issue some times ago and I had only a 16.01 backup file. In my case I was not able to import the backup on 16.05 MR2 (I cannot remember the error), so I had to reinstall XG v16.01 (fortunately I had a usb storage with that firmware on) and then I imported the backup.

No issue until now. The same system is running the latest MR-5.

Try to go into advanced shell, under /var/tslog and see if there is a log file where the upgrade or new restore operation is tracked.

    Regards

  • Sheesh, I didn't even think about the fact that we can't download these older revisions.  Come on Sophos!!

I agree with Luk.  I think you are going to have to restore your firewall to MR2, restore the config, then do the update.  Do you happen to still have an MR2 iso?

  • How can I formulate this nicely ?  Let's just say the configuration management proces at home is a bit substandard while the release managment proces is non-existent.

I'm reconstructing but I have to admit that I looked at Untangle :)
