Can I set up 2 WAN links, one fixed IP and one PPPOE

I want to set up my Sophos XG as follows:

Port 1 - LAN

Port 2 - Primary WAN to bridged modem, PPPOE configuration

Port 3 - Secondary WAN to unbridged modem, fixed IP configuration

I don't want automatic failover. I just want to be able to switch to Port 3 manually when needed. This is mainly a mechanism to switch easily to my ISP's standard modem (on Port 3) in the event that they need to troubleshoot my connection (which they won't do with third party hardware doing the VDSL work).

Is this setup practical?

Do I need to duplicate firewall rules for the 2 WAN ports?

  • Dean,

you can achieve the configuration by:

    • Configuring Wan Link Manager under Network by editing the PPoE gateway: type Backup, activate the gateway manually
    • in the firewall rules (lan to wan) make sure under Advanced Section that the primary gateway is wan link manager

    Regards
