Sophos XG Firewall Home Edition network breaks down

Dear All

several months ago, I bought XG85W (with AP15) for private use but I was disappointed regarding its limitations compared to the XG Home Edition. So I decided to buy apparently compatible hardware and install the home edition. Installation procedure was smooth and I was happy to see more options in the web console.

For some reason, I have to restart the new custom appliance since the network breaks down. AP15 blinks orange and even LAN does not work anymore. What I observed (by reviewing the logs) was, that whenever I rebooted, there was something new (software or patterns) to install. I decided to switch off automatic installation but it didn't help. The network problem come back every day.

Unfortunately, I do not know where to search for the actual root cause. Has anyone faced similar issues and knows what to do?

Thank you, Patric

  • Hi Patric,

What issues do you face when there is a network break down?  What is the memory and CPU utilization during this time? Please show us a screenshot of the system graphs.

Take SSH to XG and go to Advance Console. Execute, "top" and show us which process takes the highest memory? Finally, post the syslog.log and tell us the exact time when the network hangs.

    Thanks

  • Thank you Sachin, I just faced this situation again - access via WIFI was not possible - access via LAN (plugged into the appliance directly with fixed IP was not possible) - I attached display and keyboard but no reaction I restarted now and had to change the admin password (because console expects EN keyboard). I logged in via console and now, I have to wait again. But I do not know if console kicks me out after some time or whether it does not react when network breaks down. How do I access syslog.log via console? Where is it?
