Sophos Wireless AP55, Sophos Central Admin, Sophos XG-210....Where to configure?

We recently upgraded to the XG-210 firewall. We also migrated our AV clients to Sophos Central Advanced and are managing the clients from Sophos Central. We recently purchased an AP55 to replace our current wireless ap's but I am confused as to where I should configure the AP. I have seen that it can be configured and managed via Sophos Central but also via the XG-210. Anyone have experience with managing from either or both? We want to be sure we can setup 2 SSIDS on the AP and only allow 1 to our internal network, the other SSID would be strictly internet access only for Guests. Any insights or advice from someone experiences with either or both would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

  • I would suggest using the XG Firewall to configure the AP since it gives you more control as to what to do with the network (bridge to AP LAN or make it a completely different zone).  Some offices want none of their wireless clients to have access to their main network so they prefer making a different wireless zone completely. Managing via Sophos Central is basically meant for wireless deployments that do not have Sophos's gateway installed. Since you already have their gateway appliance in which is handling DHCP, it would make more sense to manage all network features and hardware via the XG firewall, and the more granular endpoint protection related options via Sophos Central. Similarly you can apply web-filter and application control rules via Sophos Central but if you need more control you apply those through the respective modules on the XG Firewall. Hope this helps.
