Sophost XG MTA mode

Hi

I use the Sophos XG as MTA and to scan my mail for virus/malware. it does a pretty good job.

I only wondered mail accepted by the MTA how long will it be kept to be delivered?

So when the MTA recieves mail but my mailbox server is offline, the MTA does accept the mail scans malware and sends it to my mail server.

Will the MTA have a default value it will try to deliver, or does it drops when it cannot deliver mail. I have not find any settings for this.

  • Hi Renede,

Amazing question and the answer to this is, when the Email arrives at the XG, it will send a 250 OK to the sender, if the mail server is not available, the XG will send the mail into the spool and retry every 15 minutes for 3 consecutive days. After 3 days the Email will be transferred to a frozen state and will be deleted as the memory reaches its threshold.

    Hope that helps.
