But here is my question can I have the operating system as Windows and Sophos XG running as virtual machine ?

Because if yes I will go for 8 GB model even to use the mini pc for other stuff,  if no I will go for 4GB model just to have sophos running. What do you think ?

Regards.

  • Hi,

you can if you so desire, but your XG will not be very stable. Windows is not a good base for a network/perimeter security device. Windows does too many security updates and restarts.

You would not be able to use the windows host for much.

    XG has its won OS.

Check your mini PC that the NICs are supported, most home devices uses a i219v which is not supported.

  • Thanks for the support,

Actually my idea was to have one 2 VMs on one windows machine,

1 VM for Sophos XG and the other VM for FreeNAS.

For windows update and such stuff I can deal with but I can't deal with lagging or service interruption I'm not sure if that will happen will it ?

    Regards.

  • AbdullahMohammed,

pay attention on your ISP speed and how you gonna use your XG for. 4 GB of RAM are not a lot if you start enabling all the feature sets on XG.

I would recommend you to use this box only for XG (SW version) and use another box for your Freenas OS.

    Regards

  • Yes I'm planning to enable all the features of XG,

I see your point and I think it's right to keep the box for sophos and have another one for freenas

I will go with 8GB RAM and 128 GB SSD just in case.

    Regards.

  • Just last thing, still didn't decide which box to go with

I'm planning for QOTOM Mini PC with 8GB but there are diffrent CPUs don't know which is better for Sophos.

    - Intel Celeron Processor J1900 (Quad-Core 2M Cache, 2 GHz, up to 2.41 GHz)

    OR

Intel Celeron Processor 3215U (2M Cache, 1.70 GHz, Broadwell)

    OR

    - Intel Core i3-4005U Processor (3M Cache, dual core 1.70 GHz)
