XG not sending emails using Office 365

Welcome to the Sophos Community.

Mail notification is not working with the Sophos XG and it is a known issue reported under NC-6281 & NC-9106. As of now, the XG only supports AUTH plain for authentication.

Using Auth plain and port 25, i got the following error - Fail to send email : Server error: Expecting code: 250 , but the server responds with 550 5.7.606. 

Access denied, banned sending IP (x.x.x.x) . To request removal go to https://sender.office.com

In Office 365 i have added a connector so i can receive emails from my static ip addresses configured on the XG.

I'm using a SMTP relay to send emails on port 25 (option3)

Are you using real office 365 in the cloud or office 365 (2016) on the PC.

Not sure the cloud version uses port 25 more likely 443.

This based on trying to debug the new deployment at work.

Office 365 uses port 587 for SMTP.

I had the same difficulty and gave up trying to get Office 365 to send the email. I instead easily setup a Gmail account and can send email from it so there is clearly something with the Office 365 config that I'm not seeing. I have the same setup on Sophos UTM9 and it is sending emails via Office 365.

My work office365 uses port 443 for mail.

What port have you configured on the XG appliance to work with Office 365. 

What type of connection security is setup on the appliance SSL/TLS  or is it different 

Yes the real Office365. Use Option 3 and add under Exchange, mail flow, connector- just add your WAN IP to allow MAIL to be send from one of the trusted domains.

Option 1, 2 and 3 ports

Option 3 only works if you have a static IP address (or if you're ok with constantly updating this IP address in Office 365).

I can confirm using Amazon SES to send messages was fine for notifications, but would not send automated backups. I switched to the relay options described in WPTaljaard's post to Office 365 and everything is sending correctly now.

I suspect the same would happen for Google domains if that is your mail service provider.
