The /32 subnet mask indicates one IP address. In order to configure a wan address you need 2 addresses, ip and default gateway. Ask them the correct configuration. The other option is to set only the IP address, without gateway, and create a default route in order to allow the traffic routing.

I have the exact same question / problem while evaluating XG (same service provider online.net) and I'm blocked at the very same step with same error message.

Before, I was able to configure the "old"  UTM 9 with this "IP-Failover" configuration, but this is obviously not working with XG.

The workaround suggested doesn't seem to work as I cant' create a default route with 0.0.0.0/0 as destination binded to this interface (configured with an IP in /32)

I got the error message : "Invalid gateway IP address. It must be in the interface IP address range" (which is coherent with the previous error I have to admit it)

I am currently facing the exact same issue as johann also at an online.net server.

I was hoping someone here might have some additional insight.

I cannot configure the IP on the interface without a gateway (and to add a route afterwards) as XG requires me to set a gateway.

There is another thread around: https://community.sophos.com/products/xg-firewall/f/network-and-routing/73190/wan-ip-and-gateway-ip-not-in-same-network-error which has the same problem, unfortunately also that one does not lead to success for me.
