Form Authentication doesn't allow direct links? After login goes to homepage instead of direct URL entered.

Here is the situation.  I have a website that I want to protect with a user name and password.  Under Protect -> Web Server -> Authentication Policies I create a new one called "Forms Without Passthrough".  Mode is Form, authentication Template is the default.  All groups are added.  For "Authentication Forwarding" Mode is none and I remove basic headers.

This works as intended.  Someone typing in www.mysite.com gets the login screen, they login, then they get the page.  However if I send out a direct link, say www.mysite.com/videos/testvideo.mp4, they get the same login form, they login, then it goes the the sites home page.  It seems to "forget" the rest of the path.

I don't see any settings for anything like this so I'm wondering if it's a bug.  I'm running 16.05 MR3 although it seemed to do the same thing on 16.05 MR2.  Is this a bug or is there a configuration I need to change?

  • Nope.  We went back and forth and then they verified it was doing this, which it shouldn't be.  But then asked me for more information.  There wasn't anything else I could provide, they verified it was a bug and I thought we were done.  But then they closed the case because I didn't respond....

I suggest opening up your own case, point them to this forum post and also reference my case number of 7192405.  Maybe if more people report it they will fix it.
