NEW XG Configuration Advice

HI All, I have just joined up as a sophos partner as after looking at the XG,s I think thay are a great device for the price point, I am looking at using these as a standard for all new customers and hopefully current ones as well

I have a XG 105 which I am playing with for my own office Bit of a learning curve for me

I have purchased a XG115 for a customer, I am hoping to set it up to do the following for them

2 x WAN Connections , 1 wireless and the other fibre, These are both PPPOE connections, I would like to use the Fibre for Internet browsing and VOIP, the wireless as a backup and also for a few remote users to use the SSL VPN from the XG

I would like to protect the internal users email and Web as secure as I can

The Customer has a internal exchange server

I am unsure of whether I need to setup local users on the XG so that there web and email is filtered or is this just global and happens for all traffic and is there a global spam repository that you can login into to check for all users

Any other recommendations or any assistance in setting this up would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

  • Dave,

welcome to Sophos Community. In order to receive help properly, make sure next time to create one question per thread.

Before you can install XG on a customer site, I strongly advice you to install it in a test environment and you learn how it works and which are the current limitations.

Email is not still great at the moment but email can be filtered using transparent and into MTA mode.

Multiple connections can be managed globally or per firewall rule if needed. As a partner, I strongly advice you to follow Sophos Training (contact your Sophos Representative).

    Regards

  • Thanks for the reply, I purchased a XG and RED for my Office and Home so that I could get familiar with them I have the XG working with 2 x WAN ports and some basic rules

I certainly intend on doing the training as this is a  product I would like to standardise on going forward , Apologies for getting a bit excited and asking a whole heap of questions at once

Will start going through the desired setup and asking questions one at a time

    Thanks
