Wireless Setup with Bridge to LAN - No DHCP

Hey all,

I have an XG 85W at a remote site.  I've configured a private wireless network and used the "Bridge to AP LAN" configuration.  Great, except that clients can't receive dhcp from our Windows server.

I know this configuration SHOULD work, because its working at our main site which has an XG210 connected to several standalone APs.  The main site is also using the Windows servers for DHCP and working like a charm.

Any suggestions?

  • Zane,

Did you create a dhcp relay on your XG 85 that point to dhcp server? Bridge to LAN uses the same LAN ip.

  • Tech Support at Sophos suggested the same thing.  The dhcp relay requires that an interface be chosen.  when the wireless network is created using Bridge to Lan mode, the interface is NOT available to be chosen in the relay configuration. The interface is actually created, but its not included in the drop-down list on the relay config screen.

I was able to fix this by creating the interface using "separate zone" mode, choosing LAN zone, then using the dhcp relay.

but it still doesn't explain why its not getting dhcp when in bridge to lan mode.  as mentioned, its working at my HQ which has a larger XG box with separate AP units.
