unable to initialize a WAN link

Hello,

I just added a 2nd ISP for failover on the Sophos XG.  However I cannot initialize this link for some reason. Even on Active/Active the link will not provide a green status.

Additionally is there a way to test fail over? i.e can i simulate shutdown for WAN1  and failback?

  • Actually it works if I reboot the XG for about 6 hours. Then goes down and no way to reinitialize. I know the wan works as we had it on a different firewall for a year.

Pay attention with ARP table. Make sure to clean the switch mac-address table. From XG console:

    system diagnostics utilities arp

and check that the WAN router is there with the correct IP -- MAC Address.

Do the same on WAN router/switch between them (if there is one). WAN router, even after a reboot, retains mac-addresses and they can require even 48 hours before purging old mac-addresses. Call your ISP in that case.
