Sonicwall Internal Settings compared to XG Firewall

FYI

I have had trouble migrating from a Sonicwall to a XG and I just remembered the sonicwall has a /diag.html page for their internal settings to be used only at the direction of Technical Support.

 

Interesting settings are:

I found another section of settings for the sonicwall by visiting the /diag.html page

Interesting settings enabled are:

ARP Settings:

enable ARP bridging is checked

Only allow ARP entries with unicate addresses

Limit ARPS of non-responsive IPs

Enable Gratuitous ARP Compatiblity Mode

Routing and Network Settings:

Enable TCP sequence number randomization

Perform SYN validation when not operating in strict TCP compliance mode.

enable stack traffic sending by DP core

DHCP Settings:

SEND DHCPNAK if the 'requested IP address is on the wrong network'

VoIP Settings:

Auto-add SIP endpoints

Transform SIP URIs to have an explicit port

Flush active medita for SIP INVITEs without SDP

Flush unused media for SIP INVITEs without SDP

  • We tend to go with Cisco or HP/Aruba for this.  Typically fits in with what customers already have from a switching infrastructure, and they just work.

    I've gone Dell X series as well, but that's few and far between.

    P.S.  Coming from a long time Sonicwall user (both as a customer and partner), I think moving is the right direction.  XG has its faults, but our clients have been extremely happy with them and Sophos is fully committed to it.  I personally believe we will all be happy as pie when v18 hits.
