same web categories in web filter policy

under the web policies when creating a new policy is there a way to prevent the same category being applied/added multiple times. this is really frustrating specially when you want to ensure all the right categories are being blocked but you have to scroll up and down to make sure you don't have the same category being applied.

the default policy itself has the sexually explicit category blocked twice. it would be nice for the firewall to state "hey this category is already in this policy"

  • Thanks Power.

I agree with you. This is an oversight that they should take care.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Hi Power,

Thank you for the feedback, We are in the process of making the User Interface Simple so our customers would not face difficulty in managing the device.

  • It is unfortunate.  As far as I know this "Default Workstation Policy" is an out-of-the-box policy brought over from Cyberoam.

IMO we should have some better OOB policies.  But that is data, not functionality, and I don't think there is any plan to change it, and even so it would only be for new installs.

Ultimately, if you use any OOB policy in any product anywhere, you should still review it.

There are no plans to do something that indicates duplicates.  There are plenty of cases where you want this.

    Sales   Nudity  Blocked

    Marketing Nudity Blocked

    - Or -

    All   Shopping   Allowed after 5pm

    All  Shopping Blocked

The issue is made more complex with "User Activities" which are groups of categories.  You could have two different activities that both contain the same category, then block both of them.

We are working on something for v17 that will hopefully make it easier to debug problems with complex policy.
