Android devices with issues to connect through wifi

I'm facing issues when the android devices on the company try to connects to the wireless network. Each day they must forget and add again the network since, regardless they are connected to the wifi, the devices keeps sending the traffic over the cellphone network and never shows up the banner to keep using the same network to authenticate later with the network agent when the network is saved on the device. Also, the captive portal never pop up on the android phones.

Any idea why is this happening? Any missing configuration on XG firewall?

Note: This behavior happends over different Android versions.

Thanks.

  • Juan,

Can you give us more details about the wireless configuration?

Encryption used, 2.4/5 ghz, bridge/vlan/separate zone?

    Thanks

  • Hi lferrara,

    Thanks for the reply.

Two different SSIDs with different zone and network are delivered by the APs, one is a LAN and another a custom zone created for guest access. The APs use both frequencies.

The SSID that gives access to the LAN zone have configure a drop rule to force the authentication for the users that works on the company with the client agent or captive portal, the SSID for the guests doesn't have authentication rule configure on it but have web and app filter restrictions.

The real problem isn't if I can connect or not to the wifi, I will explain the whole scenario completely

When a person of the company connects for first time on the SSID with the LAN zone, that person gives the corresponding SSID's pre-shared password and connects to the Wireless Network, since the connection doesn't have internet connection without authentication, a banner from the android devices pops up saying "This network has no internet access" and asks you if you want to stay connected on it. Once you say yes, it keeps you connected through in the Wi-Fi and use it as default gateway, when this happends you have to use the network agent to authenticate yourself in the XG Firewall and everything starts working fine.

But, the real problem is when you go out from the office and once you get back tries to connect to the wifi again, using the previously saved network, the banner doesn't pop up again, you are connected on the network but since the device recognize that connection has no internet access, it keeps sending traffic through cellphone network and when you use the network agent it can't find the server for the authentication (XG firewall in this case) since whole traffic is going through cellphone network and not wifi.

Also, if you don't have the network agent, the captive portal doesn't pop up either.

I don't really know if this is normal, but I'm asking about this since I was a Cyberoam customer before and never got this issue, regardless the whole configuration is the same.

So, if there is something that I must configure to make it work, guide me through it please.

    Thanks for your time.
