XG85 memory issues

I have an XG85 that we purchased a couple months ago, after upgrading to 16.5 it seems it runs at least 80-85% memory, and we experience it locking up requiring a reboot, along with slowness pinging even the router from a machine.... I disabled a bunch of the services and got it down to 50% ,but this doesnt' seem right.... anyone else having this issue?

  • I am not surprised.  The 85 and 105 are basically identical.  The 105 has a slightly higher clocked processor and bigger drive.  Still has only 2GB RAM.  The 115 starts at 4GB RAM.  I have seen a chart somewhere around with the processors, memory and drives in each.

The out of memory is supposedly IPS signature updates.  You have to turn auto updates off. Fix is in v17.1 Beta 2 I think.

The TEMP space problem is still being looked at.  I have slowed it down turning off Invalid Traffic logs and the tslogs purge daily.  OF course my XG85 was rebooting every couple of days so I couldn't watch over time till now.

  • Has anyone opened one up to see if the ram and drive can be upgraded or whether they are soldered on?

  • On Rev.1 Devices, XG85 had soldered RAM while XG105 had replacable Memory.

  • Hello,

i have the same Problem too. I installed a fresh XG105 with SFOS 17.06 and the CPU usage is from the beginning at 80-90% and theres NO Client connected.

It doesn´t help to stop Services.

Now i think the Services are allocating some RAM but do not use it ?

    Sorry for my bad english.

  • Hello, I'm going through this same problem on a client, as I'm reselling Sophos.
A Sophos XG 105, in a network with 10 computers accessing the internet, the memory reaches 98% of use, sometimes gives peaks of processing, then randomly the equipment hangs, needing to turn off and on again.
This happens several times in the week and you do not have the right time, it can be during the day or at night.

If you know, tell me what I can do to resolve this definitively.

    Thank you !

  • Hi,

which version of XG are you running. I would suggest you talk to support because I think there was a fix for this issue?

  • Hello, I did this and the support level 2 even talked to my client and gave as a solution to exchange the box for an XG 115, preferably 125 or 135.
I was disappointed, because the support ends up passing to the cliner the impression that I (the reseller) sold the wrong product :(
But I did not sell it wrong, this client has at most 10 computers active on the internet during the day, there are days he has only 6 live users, before the client used Sophos UTM 9 with 2GB RAM, virtual on Vmware, always worked quietly, now with the XG 105, has these problems of locking the equipment, when it restarts, it already back consuming at least 60% of RAM, the face of the support even quoted the high consumption of the IPS, but suggested equipment exchange and the clerk does not want to do this, does not want to spend more money and rightly so because he bought a solution, believing that the same would meet.

I will try to support it with Sophos support.

  • I gave up and bought a XG 115.

The XG85 is miss designed and not usable for business cases.

Since I installed the XG115 it's running without restarts of VPN-Tunnel and without Restart of the applicance.

Before the VPN-Tunnel started about 2times a day and the appliance restarted herself every 1-2 Days.

  • So weird, I just started having this issue on an XG105 rev2. out of no where a few days ago. Didn't have the problem for the 8 months since I got it. I have a case open with support, having me do memtest because they saw memory issues in the logs. Could be related to antivirus signature update recently as stopping that service can for the most part stop internet access outages that were happening the day before. I'm still on 16.05.8 MR-8 for other reasons I have gotten into before on these forums.
