Can the DHCP server register a name/address in DNS?

Is there a way to get the XG firewall to register an address in DNS when it assigns it to a host in DHCP?

For example, on my Windows A/D at work, when a computer (or phone, or whatever) gets a DHCP address, it tells DNS to add a record so I can ping my device by hostname.

i.e. My laptop's name is 'bob'.  On a Windows DHCP/DNS setup I can ping bob and it will resolve the IP address and reply back.  I'm hoping the XG firewall can provide a similar service and I just haven't figured out how to do it.

Thanks!

  • Darhl,

at the moment you can link and name when you create a dhcp reservation or if you create a dns hostname, but it is still something manually. Hope to get an improvement on that.

At the moment there are no details available on this argument. Please open a feature request on ideas.sophos.com.
