Firmware v16.0.5.1 experience

Hi all,

Does anyone already has experience with Sophos XG Firewall Firmware version 16.0.5.1? I can't find anything about it.

  • Jeffrey,

can you explain better your question?

I have installed XG v16.05 MR1 and it works great (apart I am having a IMAP error. XG does not allow to connect anymore to my external IMAP server. Connection is blocked).

Apart that, now POP3s is working fine. I will upgrade the firmware on XG210 in a few days.

    Thanks

  • Hi Iferrara,

I upgraded my software firewall from 16.01.2 to 16.05.0 and it was a disaster, so I was wondering what the overall experience is with the 16.05.1 before I upgrade my device.

  • Seems they have a fixed a few IPS related problems but otherwise MR1 is fairly similar to 16.05. If you had major problems, you will likely will have similar problems. But as  pointed out, its hard to tell without knowing exactly what problems you were having.

  • Hi Billybob,

The problem I experienced with the 16.05.0 was that my software firewall kept rebooting every 30 seconds. I don't know what the source of the problem was, because I had too little time to research the problem. Maybe it had to do with the IPS problem losts of people had, but I don't know.

So this is why I was wondering what the experience with 16.05.1 is so far.

I've made the same experience with 16.05.2 MR-2!

After I upgraded to this version I get constant reboots every 30secs, a downgrade to the previous firmware also doesn't fix that problem - had to restore a backup.

This is a complete messed up release - now staying on 16.01.3 MR-2...

  • What did you install it on, I installed 16.05.2 on a single XG210 and it has been running without issue for just over 24 hours so far?

    Cheers,

    Charles

  • Running as a VM (Proxmox) on a Dell T20.

It looks like 16.05.02 doesn't like my config, because if I switch back the firmware to the previous 16.05.01 it still keeps rebooting...

But if I upgrade 16.01.3 to 16.05.1 there are no problems, so the 16.05.2 breaks the configuration or someting else shared between firmware versions.

  • Hi Matthias,

What is the configuration allocated to the VM running SFOS ?

  • Hi,

the VM has 1 CPU, 4 Cores, 6GB RAM, 32GB Disk Size, 2 NICs (Intel E1000) and Huawei E3372 as Backup Gateway (passthrough USB 3.0).

The Host itself runs on a Intel Xeon Prozessor with Proxmox Virtual Environment and is barely under load.

It's really strange that it runs without problems under 16.01.3 and 16.05.1...

With 16.05.2 MR-2 I can see the bootup, password field and after a few seconds it just reboots again - without the possibility to login. When I switch back the firmware it behaves the same, but not if I stop upgrading on 16.05.1...
