XG Firewall settings to use it as router

Dear Community,

I am trying to replace my Router with the XG Firewall. I run it with the inital setup in Gateway Mode. If I use the Firewall like the image provided in the Initial wizard behind the Router, the Gateway interface set up as DHCP works fine. But if I plug the Gateway port directly to the modem port of my ISP, the port goes down. I can not access internet then. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

I tried it with Masquerading and without in the Firewall Rule set. The Gateway Interface is set up as DHCP and the DNS is set up to take the settings from DHCP. I also activated Malewares- scanning in the Firewall rule.

Kind regards

  • Maybe the ISP sees dhcp request from different MAC address, and refuse to hand out IP to it.
Try leaving your internet connection disconnected for a night, hopefully ISP "forgets" your old MAC address.
Or under Sophos WAN interface, use the "override default MAC address" option, and re-use your old router MAC address

  • Hey,

thank you very much for your response. I tried it with overriding the MAC.There was indeed a problem with the MAC-Adress, not because of a refusing policy of the ISP, but of the modem. I restarted it and after that the WAN interface is working without overriding the MAC.

Thank you very much for your hint.
