Can't authenticate against SSL VPN

I have 8 different XG firewalls running 15/MR3.  I can connect to the ssl vpn on all of them but 2.  Those two are different from the others as they are running STAS.  On both of those appliances authentication is configured for local, then AD authentication.  Also, on both I have USERX (a local account) and USERX@DOMAIN (an AD account), in that order of priority.

I can log into the SSL portal using USERRX and USERX @DOMAIN credentials.  However, when I attempt to log into the SSL VPN I get Authentication failed (AUTH_FAILED) on the appliance and the following message from the SSLVPN Client :

Connection Initiated with [AF_INET]xx.xx.xx.x:8443
Dec 06 16:02:05: AUTH: Received control message: AUTH_FAILED
Dec 06 16:02:05: SIGUSR1[soft,auth-failure] received, process restarting

I deleted the USERX@DOMAIN and that did not change anything.

I deleted the connection and uninstalled theVPN client.  No joy.

Any suggestions?
