VOIP Traffic and Malware scanning

We have a typical on-premise PBX server which uses standard SIP and RTP for audio.  If I turn on Malware scanning for http, the audio quality suffers, ie lots of cut-outs and delays.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Is there a workaround to still retain Malware scanning but not have it affect RTP traffic?  We have QOS set up correctly for RTP traffic which doesn't seem to help.  On the latest 16.01.2.
