16.0.1.2 not good for mail and wifi

Mail, after the update to the latest version I have trouble sending mail, I need to change to a specific ISP. Mail used to work from any of my 4 accounts before the current version.

Wifi, yes wrong forum, but never mind. 5ghz is dead. I have changed the configuration a number of times, but is does not appear anymore.

This is just going from bad to worse.

I understand this version of XG is designed to work with a mail server, but a lot of small potential users do not have mail servers and use an external server.

I preserver because I like the challenge of trying to get it to work, this has got way beyond my limited knowledge and just plain frustrating. This version is not a good product.

Nothing in the logs as to why the mail doesn't talk to the mail server, very helpful with debugging. I connect to the UTM and mail immediately goes. Something fundamentally wrong, lack of testing, QA failure what ever it is fixit if you want this product to go forward.

Yes, very annoyed.

    By any chance have you raised the service request  ?

    Could you take a PCAP of working and nonworking from your appliance so we may check why you are facing such issue . Kindly private message me along with the link to this thread ..

    I have installed the latest wifi firmware release. I am a home user so I am not able to raise this as an issue other then through these forums.

     

    I iwll take a PCAP tonight and forward the results to you.

  • I was not able to capture any packets.

    I resaved the offending account and it now sends, though nothing appeared in the capture again.

  • Found the cause of the mail send failures. The latest version of XG 16.x.2 has tightened or fixed a mail issue where the XG used to handle port 587, it no longer knows what to do with it. I have changed the port on the mail client to be 465 even though the ISP recommends 587.

    Another undocumented fix.
