Any plan to add 40GE QSFP+ slots on XG650/XG750 ?

On some public tender, datacenter are requiring 40 GE connections and of course virtual firewall concept (there is already a feature request for it: http://ideas.sophos.com/forums/330219-sophos-xg-firewall/suggestions/11262702-virtual-firewall)

Any plan to add 40 GE ports on high-end XG HW appliances? Sophos is a Leader in magic quadrant but at the moment I am not able to propose XG inside large configuration because of:

IPS real multiple threads (waiting for snort 3.0 release date)
40 GE ports (....?)
Virtual firewall concept is missing (....?)
Better log management (v17)

XG finally has SFM and iView (a step forward than UTM9).

I am sure that with these few improvements, everyone agrees with me that we can start fighting other vendor on big installation.

Hope to move XG to Enterprise soon instead of other famous vendor.....

Hi Luk,

Hard take to comment on this one. We have no update as such to upgrade the physical specifications. I support the suggestion of 40 GE port and would like to see that in high-end appliances like XG 650/750s.

I hope you can get this request and talk with Product Manager Internally. Once the XG will improve/upgrade IPS Engine, Logging and Virtual Firewall feature will be added (hope soon), XG can compete with other famous vendor on big installation.

40 Gb is becoming popular on large environment.

This is comes down to Sophos just purchasing the module and making sure the kernel supports it. The XG 750 is manufactured by Lanner Electronics for Sophos. It is an FW-8896 according to the Sophos UL certificate. The FW-8896 supports a NCS2-IQM201 2 port 40Gbe QSFP module. Not sure why Sophos has a firewall of such a caliber and capacity but chooses not to sell a module for it that is already available. Enterprises are going to insist on 40Gbe.
