is the flash drive a usb device or the internal drive? Anyway installing XG on a laptop where only one NIC exists is not recommended because you cannot do filtering unless you use it as explicit proxy.

Use a mini-itx system with at least 2 NICs.

I think that your laptop HW is not compatible.

The flash drive is the USB drive used to install XG.

I'm using the internal NIC and a USB 3.0 Gigabit NIC which has been certified to run without any drivers.

The Hard Drive is a 500GB 5400RPM HDD.

Ok.

USB devices are not supported at the moment. Anyway you can try to boot with only the internal NIC (but this is not the cause of the problem).

Once you boot the device up, press the button to select the boot device and select the HD and see if it works. I remember another problem like this:

Sadly, I've already tried that and it dosen't seem to work. If you're wondering what the laptop is, it's a HP Pavilion dm1.

1. Did the installer run completely, or gave you a warning

2. Did you format the disk before installing and mark the partition as active?

3. What make is the USB NIC

4. What is the total amount of space you have on the Internal hard drive?

1. The installer ran completely, played the little music at the end and then asked to reboot.

2. No. I've made no modifications to the partitions whatsoever.

3. A generic unbranded USB-to-ethernet adaptor bought off eBay. It's worked fine on Untangle so I shouldn't see why it shouldn't work on XG Firewall.

I am doubtful of the USB NIC, but that is a secondary problem. The software should go into failsafe if the USB card is not supported. 

Could you please format the disk as FAT32 (whole 500 GB) and then re-run the installer?

Also please ensure that the disk is selected in the booting sequence in the BIOS.

Deleted the entire partition table, replaced it with msdos and created a single FAT partition via gParted in the Ubuntu Live CD.

Ran the installer again. Same output. Rebooted, same error message.

I have verified my BIOS settings are correct.

Could you press the boot from other device key (Generally F12 or F10), which pops up the bluescreen asking you to select the boot device, and then select the hard disk from list?

The key is F9 for my BIOS, and it gives me two options, "Boot from EFI File" and "Notebook Hard Drive". Selecting the second one, I get the exact same error. "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key". If I try the "Boot from EFI File" option, I get a "File Manager" screen with everything blank and the computer freezes.

If it is a SATA drive, could you try switching SATA legacy and SATA AHCI mode in BIOS.

All I have in the BIOS is "Legacy Support", which is Enabled. It's using InsydeH20 which seems to be quite limited.

The UEFI boot order is as follows:

OS boot Manager

USB Diskette on Key/USB Hard Disk

USB CD/DVD ROM Drive

! Network Adapter

The Legacy boot order is as follows:

Notebook Hard Drive

USB Diskette on Key/USB Hard Disk

USB CD/DVD ROM Drive

! Network Adapter
