Connecting to my new ISP

Hello!

My new ISP assigns me a public IP address using DHCP. For example, the IP is 176.92.XXX.XXX, the Gateway is 46.103.127.XXX and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 (/16).

Other routers connect perfectly. My Sophos XG receives the IP but there is no internet access.

When I try to assign the IP as Static, the error "IP and Gateway must be in the same subnet" is displayed.

Could anyone help me?

    Manos,

    The message you are receiving is correct.

    Contact your ISP to get the correct ip, subnet and default gateway.

    Thanks for your reply.

    My ISPs BBRASes (the gateway in this situation) are on a specific range on a subnet, and the customer IPs are on multiple subnets with the same gateways.

    My ISP won't do anything once other routers work correctly. Is there another way to fix it?

    Every network needs its own gateway in the same subnet.

    For example if you have 3 subnets:

    • 192.168.0.0/24
    • 192.168.1.0/24
    • 192.168.2.0/24

    you can have one router where 3 IPs are configured (for example 192.168.0.1,192.168.1.1, 192.168.2.1) using 3 separate physical interfaces or only one interfaces where VLAN are configured.

    Maybe you do not have all the information and NAT is used but subent and gateway must match!

    I know and understand the above, but let me explain it more:

    As I know, my ISPs CPE (modem) is connected on the VDSL line, which syncs with the VDSL DSLAM and establishes a PPPoE connection with one BBRAS (8 BBRASes, from 46.103.127.1 to 46.103.127.8). Then, on the 1 Ethernet port of the modem, I connect my router or my computer, and via DHCP protocol I acquire the following:

    IP address: 78.87.78.xxx

    Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

    Gateway: 46.103.127.1

    Everything works perfectly, with all of my computers (Windows 7/10, Windows Server 2012) and my Ethernet routers.

    Even when trying to set my IP as static on Windows 7, I get the message "Warning - The default gateway is not on the same network segment (subnet) that is defined by the IP address and the subnet mask." but I am able to save the settings and use the Internet.

    I don't have the PPPoE credentials to enter them on Sophos, and the modem won't allow PPPoE passthrough. I believe it's a "bug" on Sophos, since everything else is working, even with a warning message.
