AP30 is detected but cannot be accepted

Greetings, I'm using Sophos Firewall XG for my home lab and I'm trying to get an AP30 access point to work with it. The hardware the firewall is installed on is a Zotac CI321 (you can find it on Amazon by searching for B01AK9TC1I ).

After enabling the Wireless Protection feature on Port 1 under Device Access and connecting the AP30 to the PoE switch, it gets picked up in the pending list in about 3 minutes. But when I accept it and assign it to the WiFi network I created and click the Save button, it gives the error 'Access Point (big long serial number) could not be updated'.

I used the flash utility to reset the firmware on the AP30 and it still does the same thing. I also tried rebooting the Sophos XG system and it didn't make any difference.

I'm used to working with UTM9 and I can't seem to find the Wireless logs on this system to see what the problem is. How can I troubleshoot this situation?

  • Steve,

on the Control Center, you have a log viewer button on the top-right and there you got wireless log.

It could be a bug: "big long serial number" message

  • Hi and thanks for your reply! The error message contains the actual serial number of the AP30, which I didn't want to copy into this thread, so I put (big long serial number) instead.

I've already taken a look at that Log Viewer, but it doesn't show any wireless log. The only logs it shows available are:

System - no wireless messages found

Web Filter - no wireless messages found

    Application Filter - EMPTY

    Malware - EMPTY

    Email - EMPTY

Security Policy - no wireless messages found

    IPS - EMPTY

    Authentication - EMPTY

Admin - no wireless messages found

    WAF - EMPTY

    Advanced Threat Protection - EMPTY

    Security Heartbeat - EMPTY

I also turned on syslog and enabled all messages and pointed it to my syslog server and still no new messages when I try to accept the AP30. It seems to mainly log policy rules allow-deny. When I try to search for AP30, or ssid, or wireless, or wifi, nothing is found. Do you know what those messages would contain that I can search for to find them?
