XG310 not detecting heartbeat after reconnect

TLDR; when I take an OS X laptop off the network and bring it back on, the XG firewall doesn't detect it's heartbeat.

So we've had an xg310 firewall that's been running for about two months. Whenever we turn on the heartbeat on a rule, it blocks all of our network traffic, even on traffic not covered on that rule. We were told that we should upgrade to v16.

I've updated my backup firewall to version 16, connected it to our backup internet circuit, and am happily connected with the heartbeat enabled on my outbound internet rule. When I unplug my laptop from the LAN, and jump on the wireless (connected to a network not on this firewall) I get an alert for a missing heartbeat. Makes sense. However, when I reconnect the laptop to the LAN, the heartbeat is not detected, the XG firewall says 0 heartbeats, and the only thing I can do is restart my computer to restore connectivity. There was an alert in the sophos cloud when I first did this that I marked as resolved.

What can I do that will restore the heartbeat without having to restart my laptop?
