Youtube and ADS - Sometimes they are not blocked

Coming from UTM, I never had issue on youtube ADS. Since v15 if you listen to a playlist or you watch multiple videos inside youtube website, ads appear sometimes.

In my web filter policy, of course, ADS are blocked (I hate them).

Anyone is experiencing this issue/behaviour?

Thanks

  • YouTube desperately wants you to watch ads and will do everything they can to not be blocked.

    You want to block ads.

Sophos does have some abilities, but they are limited because it is a web proxy.  Other products, such as those that live in the browser, are better suited to blocking ads.

Google "block youtube ads".  You might find some that work.  You might find some that don't, or have problems.  Because YouTube and the ad-blockers are in a war.  If the ad-blockers are successful, YouTube will consider changing in order to make them fail again.

Sophos, a company that focuses on corporate security, is not going to spend a significant amount of time on this.

    Good luck.

  • It used to be a problem before, when there was no other way to get rid of YouTube ads other than by blocking them.

Now there is, it’s called YouTube Premium. If you want to use the service but hate ads that is the solution for you.

I don’t think $15/month for a family subscription with Music is worse than spending countless hours fiddling with webfilters. Time is money too.

    So this topic is irrelevant.

That said, proper way of filtering would involve installing root ca of the appliance on the client which is unfeasible with a smart tv anyway.
