PPPOE sync speed?

I have firmware SFOS 15.01.0 MR-3

I have a TP Link modem (it only has one LAN port) in bridge mode

I connect it to WAN port and enter PPPOE settings and all connects fine.

Just wondering how to tell what sync speed I am getting.

Thanks.

  • Hi GaryBrown,

If you are referring the connection setting when getting connected such as MTU and MSS . Please look at the configuration definitions for more information

MTU : The Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) feature of your XG firewall is an advanced configuration in interface  that allows you to determine the largest data size permitted on your connection

MSS: The TCP MSS Adjustment feature enables the configuration of the maximum segment size (MSS) for transient packets that traverse a router, specifically TCP segments in the SYN bit set, when Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) is being used in the network.

In live scenario , PPPOE link should be an ideal value to 1492 MTU as it would cause problems when set to 1500 while accessing Websites.  You may check the value of MTU MSS  in console access .

Console option 4  > show network interfaces

As for the Speed of the internet connection i.e. Bandwidth that is a different subject and can only test when you connect a single system in LAN of XG appliance.

    Thanks and Regards

  • Thanks for your information

    I have MTU 1492 and MSS 1444

What I was actually after is the Bandwidth.

Can you please provide instructions for how to determine it.

    Thanks,

    Gary.

  • Hello Gary,

If you want to verify what speed does the XG recieve through the PPPOE connection, then try this.

Take SSH to XG and go to option 5.Device Management > 3. Advance Shell. Execute the below command

    wget -O /dev/null http://cachefly.cachefly.net/10mb.test

    Hope that helps :)

  • HI Gary, As mentioned if you want to check your internet bandwidth . You may check via Speed Test websites , or download some huge file and check the download speed. Bandwidth = download speed * 8 . Other wise there is no other tool on XG that would check the same except the bandwidth utilization in System > Dignostics > System Graphs and check for the interface your PPPOE connection is done. As for the Interface Speed , e.g. 100Mbps Full Duplex , 10Mbps Half Duplex , You could set for any interface including PPPOE connection under Advance option in Interface. Thanks and Regards Aditya Patel | Network and security Engineer.
