RED

I am configuring my first RED device.  I was unable to locate a step-by-step so I am winging it.

Here is what I have done:

1. turned on the RED services

2. created an interface

3. plugged in the device and watched the lights to verify that it downloaded the config.

at this point, I plugged in my laptop to verify that its working.  I was able to connect to the admin interface of the Sophos, but that's it.  no internet, no resources on the local network.

do I need a policy rule for this?  on the red interface config, I chose LAN for the zone, so I assumed all traffic would be categorized as being in the LAN zone and would therefore be treated as such from a policy standpoint.

  • I called tech support and figured out I needed a LAN -> LAN policy rule, due to the fact that I put the RED in the LAN zone when creating the RED interface.  Apparently, even though the traffic is in the LAN zone, it is being inspected against the policy rule base, not treated as normal LAN network traffic and allowed to pass through.
