Overview XG v15 v16 Update ....

Hi, can someone help me to get some clearance in the version jungle (at least for me)?

What is Sophos XG? is it v15 or v16?

Has v15 anything to do with v16? (can I upgrade or is it a new install?)

Cant find a answer in the forums posts...

    Hi Thomas,

    Sophos XG is the latest UTM platform from sophos. The operating system is called SFOS ( Sophos Firewall Operating System) and hardware appliances that comes pre-installed with SFOS is called XG+model number.

    So if you buy an XG105 then it's shipped with SFOS and if you're buying an SG105 then you're getting an appliance with UTM9.. The hardware is the same. SG appliance can be "upgraded" to run SFOS by converting the existing UTM9 license, but the opposite can't be done.

    The initial release of SFOS is called v15 and was released in november 2015. The 2016 release will be called v16 and is currently in public beta.. You will be able to upgrade from v15 to v16 without starting from scratch. The configuration will be migrated during install.

    So I am searching on how to upgrade my XG15-MR3 to XG16 or doesnt it make a difference?

    you would want to upgrade from v15-MR3 to v16..

    Is it a software install or are you using a sophos hardware appliance? You can get the upgrade file from the v16 beta forum, but remember it's not finished software so you will encounter bugs.

    Hi, it is a software install.

    I cant find how to upgrade from 15-mr3 to 16

    (Clean install and import settings or inplace within xg15?)

    Its a machine at home just for testing, so no problems to see bugs ;-)

    Head over to the Beta forum and download the latest up2date for your software installation. Then upload the file .gpg to you appliance in the firmware section and now it will do the upgrade and migration of your configuration.
