Settings & Physical Setup

Hey There,

I have finally installed the XG firewall home on a PC. I am now trying to set the appliance up in my home network and begin configuring the device. I have zero firewall experience and a non technical background.  I basically chose to utilize the firewall for my home network to protect my laptop, various tablets,iPhone, and smart home automated devices/sensors and hubs (i.e. VeraPlus, Wink, Hue, and the various associated IoT devices).

Current network equipment:

Cable modem

Netgear Nighthawk Router (AC1900) (currently the DHCP server with 4 ethernet ports) (2 SSIDS used for IoT and Guest network @ 2.4GHZ)

Apple time capsule/express in bridge mode (3 ethernet ports) (2 SSIDS used for laptop, tablets, and iphone @ 5GHZ)

Netgear 8 port gigabit switch (all smart home devices & hubs, cameras, Kodi box)

Question 1: Where should I place the XG Firewall into my network (there are two ports in the appliance)

Question 2: I have read much of the documentation; however there really is no step-by-step instruction for my type of network configuration. Can someone offer up some advice on the first few steps to configure my device that would protect all my devices and secure my 4 SSID's. I really do not know what to do at this point. I did however was able to install the software to access the graphgical Security Control Center at 172.16.16.16:4444, but my computer doesn't like the sercurity certificate for which I added an exception and can now view the charts and network on the graphical interface.

Thank you very much.

Wayne
