Segmentation fault at install? What now?

Hey guys, I'm trying to re-install my XG home on a new SSD drive, I got a new version of the iso put it on a flash drive, and tried to install it the way it worked for me on my other drive.

Downloaded latest Iso, made the boot disk with Rufus 2.911 portable, set to DD  All seems to go well,

I created it with a USB 2.0 Stick, used a 2.0 input

When I try to install it it gives me a "SEGMENTATION FAULT"  and then says it detected the appliance do I want to install, it will delete all data from the appliance Y/N,   then no matter what I press it does nothing?

I've tried this with 2 different USB sticks on both the old  1TB drive which worked before and on the new SSD drive which is right out of the box.

I've tried to go to reload firmware but it freezes on the first page where it asks me to select an option?

I'm not sure where to go from here?

  • I just downloaded SW-17.1.2_MR-2-225.iso, tried both installing via USB and also burned an actual CD, and am getting the same exact error described in this old thread.

    PC is AMD quad-core 2.8GHz, 8GB RAM, 100GB HDD

After booting from installation media it attempts to "install firmware" and immediately I see the system repeat "Segmentation Fault" 100 times, Using Disk /dev/dsa: 93GB as Primary Disk, Detected Appliance Model SF01V_SO01, This program will erase all data from the appliance, Continue y/n.  But my keyboard is non-responsive.

I had no trouble installing opnsense or pfsense on this box...so I don't think it's the hardware.  Help please?

  • Hi,

was the hard drive used for a Windows or Linux installation before (yes Iknow what you said above), have you tried formatting the drive in another device so there is only 1 partition? Also sometimes after installation starts there is no display for about 10-15 minutes. I thought I had a failure but let it run and then installation completed please remove CD etc.
