Best practic to bring my XG230 online the first time

I am done with the initial setup and I am ready to bring my XG230 online.

Is there a "Best practice" to safely replace my old firewall with my new XG?

Do I need to shut down my switches or all my VM servers

or

I simply unplug the old firewall and plug the new one while my network is running?

Not sure what is he safest way to bring up a SOPHOS firewll

    The thing is, I did purchased 4 hours initial setup.

    Long story short, this XG230 could not be setup the way my switches were connected to my WAN provider's router, per Sophos tech... So time got lost trying to go around this, then this tech left Sophos for another company, the second tech started over and time was lost to catch up, then the last hour was used to rush it to where it is now and it does not work. When I switched my network to this SOPHOS firewall my connection icon is orange and nothing I do make it go green.

    Now I have no more hours and it does not work, very disappointed with this particular setup. I know Sophos tech support is excellent but not with my setup at this time.
