Is it possible to change disk layout of virtual appliances?

As in the subject. There are preconfigured virtual images of SFOS. The KVM image consists of two disk files. One is 4GB and the other is 80GB. Is it possible to change the size of the second disk?


Or maybe it is necessary to install "Software Appliance" to KVM virtual machine? Will software installer put data partition on a second disk automatically?

    It amazes me how we are always blind when facing those kind of problems.

    The VMware images come pre-defined with minimal settings. I've created/recreated several of them but if you change a single configuration like memory, disk or CPU it doesn't work. You can start the CLI via Console and everything looks normal but if you choose the "1 - Network Configuration" option you get the message below. Even though it reports you that you should wait and "the system is initializing", it isn't. 

    "Please try after some time. System is initializing"

    You can wait a day. The system will still lie to you about being pregnant while it isn't.

    So, if your license allows for higher CPUs and RAM how do you set it? I've tried with the Intel ISO but you simply cannot choose the disk you want the system installed. So, with the previous case in mind, you have a 4GB disk for system and a 80GB for reporting, it chooses the 80GB for the system with a simple message "Using Disk /dev/sdb/ : 80GB as Primary Disk" and give you the option of either continuing (y) or don't (n). If you don't, it reboots and shits on your face.

    The PDF documentation is a magic world without any customization that doesn't exist in real life and gives absolutely no information on such cases. This KB, as well, leads to the vale of oblivion. I might be doing something wrong and I really can't find information anywhere. Documentation is a joke and we struggle to find anything really useful on the KB. If you run to our Holy Father Google the Goof King you still walk yourself into nothingness when it comes to Sophos XG.

    The only way I was able to set up a Sophos XG Vmware kicking in was using the VM templates with default configuration which is not what you want from a production environment.

     

    So, a summary if anyone from Sophos actually listening to this:

    Have any of you succeed in changing the CPU values of a VMware Sophos XG template? When using the ISO image how to change the disk layout?
