Sophos in VMware on Ad-hoc Wireless Network

I would like to setup a wireless home router using a spare laptop as the hardware. Since Sophos XG
apparently doesn't support wireless NICs, I have Sophos XG Home running in a VMware virtual machine on
the laptop, using Windows as the host OS.

The virtual machine is running on a laptop with a wired and wifi interface. The laptop wired
port is connected to the internet; the wifi interface is configured as an ad hoc wireless network
in Windows 10 per www.redmondpie.com/.../.

The VMware machine has two virtual adapters configured: one adapter (configured as the
Sophos LAN interface) is bridged to the Windows virtual wifi adapter on the ad hoc wireless network;
the second adapter (Sophos WAN) is bridged to the laptop wired interface.

In this configuration, I am able to login to the Sophos admin web console from a computer on the
wireless network. From the Sophos console, I can get name resolution, ssh to remote
machines, download web pages with wget, etc. However, from computers on the wireless network,
I am unable to access external websites or ssh to remote machines.

So, to summarize, traffic from the LAN gets to the Sophos gateway, and traffic from the Sophos
gateway can get out to the internet, but I can't get traffic to go from the LAN to the internet.
I believe I have firewall 'allow all' type rules in place.

Has anyone tried this configuration with success? Any advice on things to check / additional tests
I could try?

Stephen
