Replacing XG Software Appliance disk

I'm about to replace the disk in my appliance used for Sophos XG Home. I can make a backup and I hope I can restore it, but will reports be restored as well? Has anyone successfully completed that operation ? Any clues and hits?

  • There are two options for configuration backup: "System > Administration > Import Export" and "System > Administration > Backup & Restore".

Which one should I use to store my configuration before replacing the system disk?

What is the real difference between those options? Should I use Export / Import to copy parts of configuration from a device to a device ?

  • Hi,

Not sure if you can clone the disk but I think that is possible, as I believe you are simply changing the hard disk and rest of the hardware is same.

Import Export page allows an administrator to export device configuration to a text file and import configuration from a text file to the device. The contents of the text file are in human readable XML format and hence the contents could be updated offline. The updated configurations could then be imported on another compatible device. I suggest you to download the backup using the back/restore option.

    Thanks

  • Another question:

What will SFOS installer do if it will find 2 disks attached to the system?

KVM images are configured with 2 disk configuration.

I have also found out that most disk space is allocated to /var file system? Will it go to the second disk in two disk configuration ?
