Policy ID and Policy location in the tree of policies

can anyone tell me what is the benifit o fthe policy ID number ? is it effecting any thing

i want to know how the traffic is passing through policies . is it by ID or by the location on the tree of the policies ex: like the top one passed first regardless what policy ID it has?

    as other firewall, as soon the first rule is matched, the packet is processed. Firewall use top-down approach. The policy ID number is used inside reports, for example, to track traffic passing through that rule. It can be used for Admins when they need to investigate inside the logs which rule is matching a packet.
